Introducing the new AGA collection names

You may have noticed that AGA has renamed its range of cookers. Those model codes you might have become familiar with – the R7, the eR7, the eR3 – have been retired in favour of names that tell you a little more about each cooker's character: Classic, Signature, Compact, Mini.

The cookers themselves are unchanged – the same remarkable cast-iron range cookers AGA has always made; the same radiant heat that cooks so gently and evenly, the same familiar and comforting warmth that draws the family together, that makes a kitchen the heart of the home. Only the names are new. So anything you've read about a model under its old name still holds true.

We've been one of AGA's original five distributors since 1932. Across three generations, we've not only sold, installed and serviced these cookers – we've lived with them and cooked on them in our own homes too. In this guide, we look at each collection in turn, and explore what’s unique about it – to help you discover the range cooker that will best suit the way you live.

The collection names, at a glance

AGA Signature (formerly the eR7 and eR7i)

The AGA Signature is the most flexible of the cast-iron AGA cookers, and the one we cook on at home. It has all the presence of a traditional AGA: the radiant cast-iron ovens that cook so evenly, the deep glossy enamel, the warmth that draws everyone in. What's different is increased flexibility and full digital control. Each oven and hotplate works independently, with the temperatures set by touch screen, and you can put the ovens on a timer – on for early mornings, off during the day, on again in time for supper. However suits your schedule.

This flexibility is what makes these cookers such a joy to live with right through the year. In winter, you can leave the AGA on and enjoy that steady, comforting warmth that AGA cookers are loved for – the ovens always ready. When the weather is warmer, you can ease it right back, turning the main ovens on only when you need them and cooking on the hotplates while the kitchen stays cool. The Signature comes in a range of sizes, from three ovens up to seven, and in two forms: the standard Signature, with the traditional twin cast-iron hotplates, or the Signature Induction (the former eR7i), which adds an induction hob and a conventional oven for fast, precise heat. AGA Classic (formerly the R7)

The AGA Classic is the collection that is closest to the original AGA – the one your grandmother had, perhaps, and the one that was simply always on throughout the year. Its cast-iron ovens sit warm and waiting, ready to cook the moment you are.

Its controls are simple and considered – four oven temperatures, including a low eco setting, and two cast-iron hotplates, boiling and simmering. It's electric, with no flue and no annual service required. It has fast heat-up hotplates and the option of an induction hob or warming plate on the five-oven models. Where the Signature offers full digital control, the Classic keeps things simple and straightforward – an AGA in its most familiar form.

AGA Compact (formerly the eR3)

The AGA Compact has all the flexibility of the Signature, with one clever twist: it's been slimmed down from front to back, so it tucks neatly into a standard run of units with no adjustments required. If a full-depth AGA would jut too far into the room, the Compact is the answer. You still get the cast-iron heat-storage ovens and that lovely radiant heat, with the option of an induction hob and a conventional oven built in.

AGA Mini Cast-iron (formerly the AGA 60)

At just 60cm wide, the AGA Mini Cast-iron is the same size as a conventional cooker and the perfect solution in kitchens where space is tight. It has two cast-iron ovens – one for roasting and baking, the other for simmering. On top – a traditional AGA hotplate for boiling and simmering, or a four-ring gas hob. Designed to be switched on when you want that steady warmth, and off when you don’t.

AGA Mini Conventional (formerly AGA Modules)

A freestanding AGA Mini Conventional cooker module that can be used as a standalone oven or fitted onto the side of the AGA Classic and AGA Signature models. Complete with a fan oven, slow cook oven, integral grill and four- burner gas hob – with the flexibility to be fitted anywhere in your kitchen.

AGA Masterchef Deluxe

The AGA Masterchef Deluxe offers a modern take on the classic AGA look, and includes a host of innovative features for an advanced cooking experience and control. The multifunction oven includes an integral meat probe, for peace of mind that joints of meat are perfectly cooked, and there's a deluxe glide-out grill with a dual element, for both full and half grilling.

AGA ERA 

The multi award winning AGA ERA is an elegant, highly functional and precise range cooker, with a striking and sleek contemporary aesthetic. It has conventional cooking capabilities built in alongside radiant heat-storage cast-iron ovens and an induction hob beside a cast-iron hotplate. The AGA ERA offers a sensory approach to cooking, with every feature touch-screen controlled, all wrapped in a contemporary black glass fascia and polished chrome trim.
