The Design Process

If you are considering a kitchen project, then the choice can be bewildering. We first have a chat, whether that be in our showroom, over the phone, Zoom or at your home to establish whether Edwards & Godding is the right fit for you. This first contact allows us to explain more about what we can offer you in terms of creating a bespoke kitchen design.

At the first design meeting, we get to understand what you have in your mind as your perfect kitchen, not just how it looks aesthetically but also how it functions as a space just for your needs. Often customers will send us a lot of pictures or even give us access to their Pinterest and Instagram walls so we can get an idea of the aesthetic. Finally, we also talk about appliances, brands and their functions that would suit you best.

Here we will present our initial design concept in both 3D and 2D plans and elevations. Design is an iterative process and so we work through with you how we have interpreted your requirements from the first contact and first design meeting. At this stage we can also provide an relatively accurate estimate for the kitchen project. We very much believe that you will want to consider the designs and make your own notes in your own home with a cup of tea or a glass of wine, so we send hard copies to you so you can do just that.

We very much hope that you will put your trust in Edwards & Godding to supply and install your new kitchen. If we are the right company for you, then we ask for a deposit of £1,000 to allow us to work on the final design changes and provide photorealistic renders and virtual reality walkthroughs so you can really get a sense of how your new kitchen will look. Depending on the nature of your project, we may need to conduct a final site survey to ‘measure as built’ to ensure that there are no sizing issues on installation.

Often, a new kitchen is part of a larger project and so we will liaise with your contractor to understand the timescales involved. We will provide your contractor will detailed technical service drawings so that water, gas and electric supplies are positioned correctly.

Depending on our workload, our timescales can vary from 6 weeks to 3 months. From the very first discussion that we would have had, your project timescales will have been taken into consideration. We understand that the best laid plans can often go awry, so we ensure regular communication with all parties are involved so that your kitchen can be installed as the project timing allows.

We only use a team of trusted kitchen fitters and, if necessary, hand-painters to install and finish your kitchen. Our team is made up of people who we would want working on our own homes. We finish our kitchens to the very highest standard, so we conduct a final survey of the installation before we hand the kitchen over to you.
