If the start of a new year has you ready for a fresh start in your kitchen as well, then you’re probably eager to meet with designers and get a plan together. However, before you do that, here are a few top tips to help you get the most out of your new kitchen by ensuring your design is just right.

Talking to a kitchen designer is an important step, but there are some things you’ll want to consider first to help them work with you to create the best result possible.

Make A Wishlist

The most crucial step to designing a kitchen is knowing how you want to use the space. Have a long think about what you want and need in your kitchen to make it work for you. Do you want room for a large dining table? Do you want a breakfast bar? What gadgets do you need, and which would you like?

Once you have your list of things you want in your kitchen, take the time to split your list into ‘must-haves’ and ‘nice to haves.’ This will help both you and your designer to focus on your priorities.

Have Your Measurements

Before you sit down with a designer, you need to have a clear idea of the space you’re working with. If you’re remodelling an existing kitchen, that means measuring up the room, including any windows and doors. It can help to take pictures, so you have a real feel for the area. Many people aren’t quite sure of their kitchen space when the existing cabinetry is removed!

If you are having an extension built, then bring the architect’s drawings with all the measurements. This will let your designer know exactly what they’re working with.

Make An Inspiration Board

Take some time to look at pictures of kitchens. Whenever you find one that you like, keep the picture. It could be a small feature of a kitchen or the whole thing. You can do this by clipping pages or by creating an online mood board. Pinterest is quite useful for this.

This is one of the clearest ways to share your taste with a designer and show them what sort of result you’re aiming for.

Decide On A Budget

Before you get really deep into designing your kitchen, you need to know how much you’re willing to spend. The price of a kitchen can vary a lot, and if you don’t keep a grip on the costs, it can soon spiral.

When you have decided on a budget, make sure to also consider everything you will need to spend money on. For instance, you need to remember to think about installation costs, flooring, and decorating, as well as the cabinets, work surfaces, and appliances.

Keep An Open Mind

When you sit down with a designer, it’s a really good idea to enter that conversation with an open mind. Kitchen designers have a lot of experience. They may be able to see a problem with your plans that you didn’t think of.

A designer will also have a wealth of ideas. They can suggest things that you might not have even known were possible. By remaining open to their input, you may end up with a kitchen even better than the one you’re dreaming of right now.
